Live Off Your Passion Course – Module 3 reviewed

This third review for the LOYP course is a little late for the week as I was caught up with other stuff like going for job interviews, working on my Fiverr gig orders and spending time connecting with my feelings. It is hence very timely that I have to cover materials on the topic of Creating Your Environment & Connecting with the Passionate People That Make Everything Possible right at a point when I feel very much alone and would rather disconnect from the world. The drive home message for the module is that the people around me makes a difference to my success or pursuit as I would rather see it. I have been thinking a lot about this quote by Jim Rohn:

“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

And it bothered me. I was surrounded by mostly pragmatic and down-to-earth people who thought of me as a dreamer and an idealist. But these were also the very people who mattered most to me in my life. I was conflicted as there was no way I would ‘fire’ these relationships just because they did not believe or make sense of my life mission. They stuck by me and show support despite not understanding or sharing the same dreams. They have anchored me. And I love them for that. I know that this period of discovery and change have been hard on the people closest to me. I only wish it was that easy to open up for heart-to-heart conversations about my new goals and personal journey.

What I do agree with from the materials is I have to expand the circle to surround myself with more people who believed in the same impossibilities and who could light me on fire. And the following are baby steps I either have taken or intend to take:

  1. Join a few communities in town – I have narrowed down to Live Your Legend Local, Toastmasters Club (yes I’m going to finally pluck some courage and go for one), and I have signed up to be a volunteer guide for a local park.
  2. Spend a little time each week with one passionate, positive or inspiring person. If I cannot find anyone, I will watch a Ted or Tedx video. There are so many inspiring people around the world.
  3. Identity a few people to help me to be more accountable to the goals I set.
  4. Find a personal mentor, counsellor or life coach to help work with me on some of my difficult issues. If you think you can or want to try and support me with this process be it online or in person, feel free to drop me a note.

I am not keen or ready to create my ultimate mastermind group. But conversations this week also made me realise that a group like this can also simply comprise of two individuals. I will give this a little more thought.

Lastly, I just have to mention that the expert videos for Module 3 were excellent choices and very relevant to this topic.

Chugging on.
